Recap of Storytelling at The Fall for the Book Festival

Better Said Than Done storytellers were excited to have two events at this year’s Fall for the Book Festival at George Mason University – a storytelling panel and a storytelling show. We were happy to be included and glad to see storytelling find a place in the festival.

Our panel discussion, “Living to Tell About It – the Art of Storytelling,” was a lot of fun, for the audience as well as the panelists. Moderator Shawn Westfall, a storyteller himself, did a great job asking all the hard hitting questions.

Panelists ranged from a relative newcomer to storytelling, David Supley Foxworth, to a storyteller of 20 plus years, Ellouise Schoettler. Anna Marie Trester and Jessica Piscitelli Robinson each have a lot of storytelling experience, but not quite so much as Ellouise.

We had great audience attendance and they asked some hard hitting questions themselves. It was wonderful to meet some people new to storytelling, and to have some of the authors and playwrights from the festival in attendance.

And then some of the audience members from our storytelling panel helped pack the room at the Auld Shebeen for our storytelling show, “Fall for It – stories of following a dream, being duped, or falling hard.”

We had a fantastic lineup of storytellers. Meredith Maslich kicked off the night with her story of what it means to be a business owner. Jessica Robinson told a tale about an unfortunate tenant situation, which David Supley Foxworth furthered in a two part storytelling segment. Ellouise Schoettler shared what could happen if you just ask a stranger for their story. Mike Kane thought he was taking his kids to a Star Wars parade, but had a totally different experience. Len Kruger hung all his hopes and dreams on a writing conference. John Tong ended the night on a high note, putting the “fun” back in funeral.

Our next storytelling event is tomorrow night. So if you missed all the fun so far, come to Reston Saturday night, September 28th, for “Believe It or Not.” Details here.
