Best of the Best 2016

On Saturday night, the top ten Better Said Than Done storytellers (as voted for by over 1000 storytelling fans) competed in our 5 Year Anniversary Storytelling Contest to see who would win “Best in Show.” The audience at Jammin’ Java, in Vienna, VA, was packed with nearly 200 people, many of whom were determined enough to see the show that they stood the whole time. Thanks for being a fantastic audience and special thanks to those who stood!

The top ten Better Said Than Done storytellers of 2016 are: Dustin Fisher, Brent Heard, Alison Hughes, Liezel Munson, Miriam Nadel, Jack Scheer, David Supley Foxworth, Anne Thomas, Anna Marie Trester, and Zach Wilks

Our anniversary show was hosted by Better Said Than Done founder Jessica Piscitelli Robinson. In keeping with the Best in Show theme, Jessica asked each storyteller what kind of dog they would be, and introduced each of the storytellers by breed.

In the interest of being fair, the lineup was chosen randomly. First up was David Supley Foxworth, who, in case you were wondering, would be a poodle.

After David’s story of traveling through Barcelona, Anna Marie Trester, who would definitely NOT be a poodle, told a tale about paying it forward.

Dustin Fisher tried, but failed, to not be awkward asking his fellow stay-at-home parents for a play date.

Anne Thomas told us about a twist of fate during a wine stomping festival.

Brent Heard, who was told he’d make a great chihuahua by an internet quiz but would prefer to be a poodle (what is it with poodles?), told a tale about the day he almost died.

We took a little break from the storytelling to take a group photo of all the Better Said Than Done storytellers who were in attendance. Thanks to all of you for continuing to share your true, personal stories with our audience. And thanks to Kian McKellar for taking all of these fantastic photos!

Liezel Munson kicked off part two of the evening with her story about a girl crushing heavy on a boy. (In case you couldn’t guess, she was the girl)

I learned a lot about Miriam “more of a cat person” Nadel in her story of becoming her father’s daughter.

Zach Wilks, who won my heart by sharing a picture of his Cavalier King Charles, told a story about pride and marathon running.

Jack Scheer, who really put a lot of thought into the dog question, decided he would be Krypto, Superman’s dog, because then he’d have super powers. Jack put his storytelling super powers to work with his story about a paranormal iPod.

Alison Hughes wrapped up the storytelling portion of our night with her tale of biking woes and whoas whilst wooing a man.

Thanks to Jammin’ Java for having us back. Thanks again to Kian McKellar for photographing the show! Special thanks to Bart Robinson for designing the BSTD logo, posters, website, banners, and for supporting my love for storytelling for the past 5 years as only the world’s greatest husband could.

Thank you to the storytellers who have graced our stage for the past 5 years and to the audiences who keep coming back for more!

Congratulations to the Better Said Than Done top ten storytellers of 2016. You guys earned the title.

And now, for a special congratulations to the top 3 as voted for by nearly 200 people in our live storytelling contest.

Thanks to all for a fantastic 5 years. I hope to see at least 200 of you at our next storytelling show – back at The Auld Shebeen in Fairfax, VA – on June 25th for “The Graduate: stories of education and graduation.”

And if you would like to share our stage, take a storytelling workshop! We’d love to hear your story.
