NSN Story Slam

On Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 9:00pm EDT, the National Storytelling Network is hosting a Story Slam as part of the weekend’s festival activities. If you wanted to participate in the Women’s Storytelling Festival but didn’t get a chance this year, well, here’s your chance! The theme of the slam is FIERCE.

Fill out this form to submit your name for the Story Slam.

Twelve storytellers, chosen at random, will share their personal 5-minute story on the theme “Fierce.” The audience decides the winners.
First prize: $100. Second Prize: $50. Third Prize: $25.

Please note:
Though the Story Slam is part of the festival activities, it is being produced by the National Storytelling Network. Please register at the link above.
You must have a ticket to the festival to gain entry to the Story Slam, whether or not you enter your name.
The host of the Story Slam will draw names at random to determine who will participate in the Story Slam.
Other rules and regulations are listed on the NSN form.
-If your name isn’t chosen for the slam, there is a Story Swap Sunday morning. It is also open to ticket holders, and the first 12 people whose names get pulled from the hat. It is another chance to tell – though there are no prizes for the swap.

What’s the Difference Between a Story Slam and a Swap?

A Story Slam – like the one on Saturday night hosted by the NSN – is a competitive storytelling event. Everyone who is chosen at random to perform will share a 5 minute story – the best they got – on the theme of FIERCE. Then the audience votes on their favorite stories and the ones that get the most votes win prizes.

Sunday morning’s Story Swap is not competitive. We will give as many people as possible the chance to share a 5 minute story. In fact, if your name didn’t get pulled on Saturday night, this is a great opportunity to share your story. However, no competition means no prizes. Bonus – there’s no competition! We’re all just gathering to share stories.

A Festival ticket gains you entry to both the slam and the swap. However, if you want to put your name in the hat for the slam, you must also register through the NSN form.
