Support for Women Warriors

On Sunday, April 30, 2017, Better Said Than Done hosted Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors. In the first storytelling show of it’s kind, 9 women warriors shared their true, personal stories about obstacles and empowerment. The show was not only part of a movement, it was a fundraiser for the National Network to End Domestic Violence.  Better Said Than Done raised $1250.00 in ticket sales alone for NNEDV.

We also sold a number of books, and will continue to sell them, so will tabulate those funds later. You can buy the book anthology Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors here.

I will post again soon with a recap of the fantastic storytelling show itself, but I want to take the time in this blog post to thank the many people I owe a debt to, the people who helped make Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors a successful night of storytelling.

The storytellers!
I can’t say enough about how fantastic the stories were. In fact, I will say more soon. But for now, thank you to all the women who shared their stories, who worked on crafting their stories for months, and who helped spread the word about this show and this cause.  Thank you Stacy Crickmer, Felicia Reed, Sandra Hull, Kathy Stershic, Allison Stevens, Jessica Robinson, Sharon Few, Brandy Walker and Anne Thomas for your participation and your beautiful souls.

The audience!
First of all, thank you for giving us a standing ovation. That was a pretty emotional moment for me, and I imagine for my fellow storytellers as well.  Secondly, THANK YOU FOR COMING! Seriously, we appreciate you buying a ticket and coming to the show.  Not only because you are the reason we raised $1250, but also because, without an audience, we’d have no one to share our stories with. So thank you, for being there and for listening.

Mary Supley Foxworth! Not only did Mary fill in at the last minute as host, and do a phenomenal job hosting, but this was also her FIRST TIME! I don’t know how she managed to slip through for so long, but she nailed it. And now that the secret is out, she’ll be back up there as host again soon.  And Mary, as always, provided so much more help behind the scenes. Thank you Mary for design and printing, promoting and hosting, and all the support no one gets to see.

NNEDV! Thank you for the work you do in your mission to end domestic violence. And thank you to Morgan Dewey for helping to organize and promote and to Cindy Southworth and Emily Dahl and the rest of the crew who were able to attend the show and offer information about NNEDV. Better Said Than Done is happy to support a truly wonderful organization.

The Authors! We had nine of the co-authors of Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors in attendance on Sunday night. We are so excited about the book. It’s a fantastic anthology and I hope you’ll get a copy if you haven’t already. Thank you to all 21 authors, and a special thank you to the 9 who were able to attend the show and offer their in person support:
Laura Pimentel, Mary Supley Foxworth, Urmilla Khanna, Sandra Hull, Bushra Jabre, Mary Nicol Lucas, Anne Thomas, Jessica Robinson, and, not pictured, Kim O’Connell.

Bart Robinson! Wow. If you like the book cover design you have Bart Robinson to thank for it. If you don’t like it, then you need to get your eyes cleaned, because it’s gorgeous. In addition, Bart designed the Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors logo, which we used in the poster, on the web, and as part of the book cover.

Jammin’ Java! Great sound. Great lighting. Great food. AND a green room for the performers! We love Jammin’ Java and hope to return there soon – though maybe not on a Sunday night next time.

Kian McKellar! You like all the photos you’ve seen here today? Thank Kian. You want to find out more about his photo and video work? Check out KeyinFilms.com.

David Supley Foxworth! Thank you David for selling books for us. Someone had to process all those credit cards and you were great!
