Fall for the Book Festival 2015

Better Said Than Done storytelling was honored to join the cast of literary greats for the third year in a row at George Mason University’s Fall for the Book festival, in Fairfax, VA. This year, as in years past, we hosted a panel discussion on storytelling as well as a storytelling show.storytelling panel discussion

This year’s panel, which was titled “The Art and Truth of Storytelling,” was moderated by Shawn Westfall, of Unified Scene Theater fame.

Topics of discussion included:
How much truth is there in our storytelling? – Lots. Our stories are “true” after all.
Can good storytelling be taught? – Yes! Take one of our storytelling workshops!
Can storytelling inform other forms of writing, such as memoir writing? – Yup!
Do Improv and storytelling work together? – They most definitely do and will, in fact, be sharing the stage at our October show!

After having such a wonderful time at the panel, a group of Better Said Than Done storytellers shared their true, personal stories at our storytelling show. This month’s theme? Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.

Shawn Westfall was connected to the man via Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who were in a movie with Steve Guttenberg who was in Diner.

Mary Supley Foxworth was just as good at bringing home the bacon with her Harry Connick Jr. connection.

Brian Clarke made the second Steve Guttenberg to Kevin Bacon connection, as Steve was also in a movie with The Village People!

Jack Scheer made his connection to bacon via Sir Patrick Stewart and the X-Men franchise.storytelling show

Jessica Piscitelli Robinson made her connection through love, her love of Campbell Scott who, of course, worked with Kevin bacon’s love Kyra Sedgwick in the movie Singles.
