Meet the Storytellers: Miriam Nadel

On this Friday, we’re offering a Q&A with Miriam Nadel. Miriam is one of the 10 talented storytellers in the line-up – selected through an online competition (here’s the story Miriam submitted) – who will be performing in Better Said Than Done’s 5 Year Anniversary Show and Story Contest.

Storyteller Miriam NadelName: Miriam Nadel

Age: 57

Profession: aerospace engineer

Town where you live: Vienna, VA. I believe I am the contestant who lives closest to Jammin’ Java.

Blog: fauxklore.livejournal.com

When did you first start telling stories on stage? About 1990.

What was the first story you told about? An original fairy tale about a chess-playing Cinderella. I have recently learned I have a cousin twice removed who was the Lithuanian women’s chess champion.

What’s your favorite storytelling moment? Telling a story at my brother’s wedding.

Any other hobbies you’d like to share? I do things with yarn. I was part of the Smithsonian crochet coral reef, a couple of local yarn bombing projects, and once crocheted a uterus for former Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli, who never had the decency to thank me for it.

What’s your favorite fictional story? I reread Alice in Wonderland at least twice a year.

Since the anniversary show is at Jammin’ Java, how do you take your coffee? Black. If it were meant to have cream and sugar, the beans would grow that way.

You live in Vienna, Virginia, where the May show will be, but have you ever been to that other Vienna, in Austria? Been there twice, plus changed planes there a couple of other times.

Miriam will be telling a brand new story at our show in May and will be competing for votes from the audience for favorite story of the night!
