Storytelling Firsts for the Year

Our January storytelling show at The Auld Shebeen not only boasted a lineup of fantastic storytellers, it was also the host for several firsts of the year. “General Hospital: stories of doctors, nurses and patients” was our first show of 2018 at The Auld Shebeen, in Fairfax, VA – though it won’t be the last. It was the first time Susan Trivers stepped up on stage and shared a true, personal story – and we all hope it won’t be the last. And it was the first time in the history of Better Said Than Done that someone broke down in tears on stage – and I definitely hope it was the last because that someone was me. Hosting fail. I was so moved by one of the storytellers’ tales that I couldn’t pull it together in time to make a clever remark and introduce the next storyteller. I guess that’s proof enough that our stories get personal!

In addition to hosting, I also shared a true, personal story along with the night’s other storytellers – Michael Zhuang, Alexandra Dixon, Richard Barr, Susan Trivers, Cyndi Wish, and Nick Baskerville.

Here are some photos of the amazing storytellers who started 2018 off with stories so powerful I almost needed a doctor!

Some of our storytellers took their first steps by taking a Better Said Than Done storytelling workshop. Read about our February and March workshops here.

Join us in the audience for our next show at the Lake Anne Coffee House, The Auld Shebeen or the City of Fairfax Library. Read about our upcoming storytelling shows here.
